Steuben County records first fatality as COVID-19 pandemic spreads

Officials in Steuben County say one person has died from COVID-19.

The individual was an 89-year-old female from the Village of Bath who died while hospitalized.

Public Health Director Darlene Smith echoed the importance of social distancing and other measures being enforced by the state.

“It is so important for people to continue to stay home and limit contact to minimize the devastating impact of COVID-19,” she said. “The more people continue to congregate and go out into the community, the worse Steuben will be.”

Residents are told to stay home unless traveling is necessary. Call a local healthcare provider if you’re feeling ill.
