Seneca County Sheriff Tim Luce reports the launch of a death investigation after an inmate was found deceased on Tuesday around 8:46 p.m.
Sheriff Luce says a corrections officer was doing a round of checks when he found an inmate unconscious. Live-saving measures were immediately started. However, despite those efforts – the inmate identified as Loyd Barnes, 27, of Lodi succumbed.
South Seneca Ambulance responded to the jail. Luce says Barnes was transported to the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office where an examination will be performed. Sheriff Luce states that Barnes was locked in a cell by himself at the time and had just been checked on by corrections officers.
The investigation is ongoing. Luce says Barnes was in custody for parole violations. He extended his sympathies to friends and family of Barnes, and said a thorough investigation would follow.
