Newark residents will make noise at 6 p.m. each day for ‘essential’ workers

The Village of Newark is asking its residents to get loud as they show their appreciation for essential workers.

Beginning this week, Wednesday at 6 p.m. residents are encouraged to blow their car horns, bang pots and pans, or do anything else to make as much noise as possible.

Officials say the noise is to show support for doctors, nurses, and any others deemed essential during the pandemic.

That will continue each day at 6 p.m. Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, which is owned by Rochester Regional Health operates in the village.

It’s a similar show of support to those practices that have been documented in Europe and other major cities in the U.S.
