On Tuesday, universal masking policies will go into effect at hospitals operated by the two largest conglomerates in the region.
UR Medicine and Rochester Regional Health announced that they will enact new policies that will require all staff, visitors, and providers to wear masks in public clinical areas.
“This is the latest of several actions the health systems have taken in recent weeks to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus,” a spokesperson for UR Medicine said in a statement. “Universal masking is a preventative strategy to keep healthcare workers safe and slow the increase in COVID-19 cases.”
The health systems are expected to hold a press conference on Tuesday. Both operate hospitals in Ontario and Wayne counties.
