The Marcus Whitman Wildcats season came to an end on Monday night as they fell 58-53 to the Caledonia-Mumford Raiders at Wayland-Cohocton High School in the opening round of the Section V Class C2 State Play-In Tournament. The loss ends the season of a Marcus Whitman team that captured the school’s first Sectional Championship since 1976.

Fresh off of winner a pair of Sectional titles on Friday night, it was an electric, fast-paced first quarter at Wayland-Cohocton as both teams scored 14 points. In the second quarter, the Raiders outscored the Wildcats 16-12 to take a 30-26 lead at the half. Marcus Whitman came out of the locker room and scored 14 third-quarter points to cut Caledonia-Mumford’s lead to just two. The Wildcats battled in the fourth quarter but came up short as senior Vin Molisani and sophomore Kyle Wade hit key late free throws to seal the win.
Kyle Wade (17), Vin Molisani (16) and Joe Laursen (13) combined to score 46 of Caledonia-Mumford’s 58 points.
Liam Prendergast scored a game-high 18 points for Marcus Whitman. Jordan Lahue added 16, 14 of them came in the second half.
Caledonia-Mumford will take on C2 Champion Lyons Wednesday night at Newark High School.
