A fire department in Cayuga County announced that it will not be doing fish fry dinners this winter and spring as part of Lenten season.
The Sennett Fire Department made the announcement via Facebook, pointing out a need to focus on their primary mission.
“We must focus on our primary mission of providing a valued service to our community,” the department wrote in its post. “We are extremely grateful for the support over the the years and we look forward to funding new ways to remain engaged with our community.”
Rising costs made the dinner less sustainable as a fundraiser, and finding volunteers to work the repeated, weekly event became more difficult too.
