Count Assemblyman Gary Finch, a Republican who has represented the Auburn-area since 1999, will not seek re-election this year.
He is the latest Republican to announce plans in state government to not run this year.
Finch was a funeral director and owned the Brew-Finch Funeral Homes for more than 40 years.
As The Citizen reported, Finch’s political career spanned more than 40 years. He was first elected village trustee in 1979.
The Citizen also reported that Kenneth Bush III, a Republican, will seek the nod to succeed Finch.
