Karl Karlsen’s murder trial is underway in California.
Karlsen is accused of killing his wife, Christina, in 1991 at their home in Murphys, California.
Jury selection began on Wednesday. Karlsen is accused of killing her for an insurance policy.
In 2013, Karlsen pleaded guilty to killing his son, allowing him to be crushed by a truck.
Before being extradited to California Karlsen was serving 15 years to life in a New York prison for murdering his son in their Varick barn in 2008.
A pair of life insurance policies proved to be consequential in both cases. Karlsen had taken a $700,000 life insurance policy out on his son before his death, and a $200,000 policy on his wife before she died in that fire.
Opening statements are expected next week.
