Sun & Record/Wayne County Mail newspaper ends production

The Sun & Record/Wayne County Mail announced this week that it was ending publication, according to a message posted to Facebook by owner John Addyman.

The 143-year-old newspaper put out one last edition last week.

Addyman, a longtime journalist in the region, took over the publication from prior owners Dave Young and Wilma Young, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

At one point the Sun covered Williamson; the Record, Sodus; and the Wayne County Mail, Ontario and Walworth. They later merged, and The Sun & Record/Wayne County Mail was the result.

Addyman noted that advertising revenue, or the lack of it, ultimately drove the merger, and eventual closure. He also said that the average age of his readers was 60, and that was a concern.
