Deputies say a 30-year-old Waterloo man was hospitalized – then ticketed – after being ejected from his vehicle during a DWI crash on Hecker Road.
Rusty Kerns, 30, of Waterloo was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right, crossing hazardous markings, and no seat belt.
The arrest stems from an investigation into a crash on December 21st. Deputies say Kerns lost control of his car, crossed over into the oncoming lane, and struck a utility pole.
The vehicle then rolled end-over-end, causing Kerns to be ejected. Deputies say he was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by North Seneca Ambulance for back and head injuries.
The vehicle had to be towed from the scene, according to deputies. Power was out in the area following the crash.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Border City Fire Department. Kerns was issued appearance tickets and is to appear in the Town of Waterloo Court
