Destiny USA owner says they have a police substation, but that’s debatable

After local backlash Destiny USA ownership says it has a police substation on-site. In fact, they say it’s been there for 20 years.

Since the Black Friday shooting that occurred near the food court, which sent customers running and left the center in chaos – many called for the addition of a substation.

As NewsChannel 9 learned, there could be a difference between what mall ownership says is a substation, and what customers expect as a substation.

In an interview with NewsChannel 9, Steve Congel, Destiny USA’s owner said, “There has been a substation at Destiny for over 20 years. It’s there, It’s in the mall today. It’s actively used today. So there has been a substation for quite some time.”

Pyramid owns three malls with substations that are listed on that malls’ directories online, Sangertown Square in New Hartford, Crossgates outside of Albany and Poughkeepsie Galleria.

Meanwhile, Destiny USA’s website has no such reference, despite what Congel said to NewsChannel9.
