One killed after farming accident in Cortland County

According to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, a farming accident in Cortland County left one dead.

On Thursday evening around 5:25 p.m., deputies, along with the Marathon Fire Department and Ambulance Service responded to a farming accident that occurred on McGraw Marathon Road in the Town of Freetown.

An investigation revealed that the owner of the farm was moving equipment with a tractor when the tractor, which was attempting to pull a wagon up, overturned, pinning the operator underneath the tractor.

Family members who were assisting on the farm at the time were able to free the operator from under the tractor with a jack. The operator was treated at the scene by Marathon Fire and Rescue for severe internal injuries and was transported by ambulance to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City where he passed away as a result of the injuries.
