Tentative budget in Seneca County maintains tax levy for third consecutive year

The 2020 Tentative Budget has been filed with the Clerk to the Board of Supervisors.  It maintains the Property Tax Levy at $9.8 Million for the third consecutive year and reduces the Tentative Tax Rate for fully equalized properties to $4.28 per $1,000 of Assessed Value, the fifth consecutive year that the Equalized Tax Rate has dropped.

Seneca County continues to enjoy robust Sales Tax Revenue and benefits from being host to del Lago Casino & Resort.

Total General Fund Appropriations in the Tentative Budget are $70,347,337.48.  The Budget maintains current service levels and fully supports all of the County Affiliate organizations.

“At a time when many municipalities are challenged by the Tax Cap and rising costs, Seneca County is fortunate to have a strong local economy and dedicated County staff who are mindful of the bottom line,” said Robert Shipley, Chairman of the Seneca County Board of Supervisors.

“Three consecutive years of no Tax Levy increase and five straight years of reduction in the Equalized Tax Rate is no small task,” said Michael Reynolds, Covert Town Supervisor and Chair of the Seneca County Board’s Ways and Means Committee.  “I appreciate the work of all of our  County staff.  They continue to provide quality services and are mindful of delivering those services efficiently,” he continued.

Budget Workshops and a Public Hearing will be scheduled so that the Board of Supervisors and the public will have an opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions to strengthen the Budget as it moves towards adoption.

“I thank all County Departments for their work on developing the 2020 Budget and look forward to the Board and the public’s review as we move towards adoption of the budget and setting priorities for the coming year,” added County Manager Mitch Rowe.
