In effort to curb opioid crisis, oral surgeons find other methods to treat pain

Holly Murphy says she would not let her daughter, who struggled with addiction, take prescribed Vicodin for post-wisdom teeth surgery pain.

“When she came home with that I was very worried. I’m like, ‘I can’t even give it to her, it’s not going to happen,'” said Murphy.

That was four years ago. Last month, Holly’s younger daughter went in to the Eastman Institute of Oral Health to have her wisdom teeth removed. Murphy says she was surprised when it came time to treat post-surgery pain.
