FEMA’s acting administrator tours Lake Ontario shoreline, discusses damage

FEMA’s acting administrator was in Wayne County Monday.

Peter Gaynor spent the day with Congressman John Katko in Sodus Point to discuss the impact high lake levels have had on the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Before surveying the flood damage, Gaynor met with lawmakers to talk about eligibility for federal funds and money to prepare and mitigate against flooding damage – which many have blamed on Plan 2014.

The flooding has subsided for now, but the potential for future problems remains.

One potential option for homeowners is a federal buyout – but local, state and federal damage assessment teams have to gather data on the damage first.
