Since arriving as a September callup, Rajai Davis had accomplished little of note. In four of the seven games he appeared before Saturday, Davis did not log a plate appearance. He provided the Mets with veteran depth, nothing more.
Yet in the eighth inning Saturday, Davis delivered one of the more impactful hits of the Mets’ season. Forced to use a pinch-hitter for Seth Lugo when the Mets loaded the bases in a scoreless game, manager Mickey Callaway turned to Davis, who ripped a three-run double to left to provide all the runs in a 3-0 Mets win over the Dodgers at Citi Field.
