An Ithaca Police officer was hit by a car while directing traffic at the scene of an accident on Saturday, according to police.
Officers had initially arrived at the scene of a two-car crash with injuries at the entrance to the Home Depot Plaza on Elmira Road.
Police say the accident was taking up much of the intersection, so two officers were assigned to direct traffic around the scene.
While directing traffic, an officer was hit by a car and knocked down on the pavement.
