The Cayuga County Health Department says that a plan to kill hydrilla on the lake has backfired.
Due to a miscommunication, the chemical used to kill the plans was applied on Thursday in the area of Don’s Marina by the Town of Genoa. It was supposed to take place next week.
Because of this, those who live along the lake should not swim in that area until after noon on Friday.
Notices have been delivered to neighbors in the immediate area letting them know of the blunder.
