Prosecutors pick holes in Laura Rideout appeal

Two months after Laura Rideout appealed her murder conviction and pointed at her sons as the killers, prosecutors have filed a response that seeks to debunk those claims and uphold her conviction and sentence.

Rideout’s lawyers argued that the 2016 killing of her estranged husband Craig Rideout was an act of “impetuous violence” by young men who thought they were helping their siblings escape an abusive father.

And while she acknowledged she was guilty of tampering with evidence in her futile attempt to clean up the murder scene, she insists that she did not participate in the killing either directly or as an accessory.
