The Seneca Falls Water Department has temporarily discontinued Chloramines as of 7/1/19 as the disinfectant treatment process for the Town of Seneca Falls water supply. Due to the continued and unusual temperature of Cayuga Lake, the Water Department states that it is necessary to continue with Free Chlorine. This is a temporary change, and as soon as the lake temperature returns to normal the SFWD will gradually return to the Chloramines treatment process.
The only change residents may notice is a stronger chlorine odor while the SFWD is using the Free Chlorine disinfectant process. The quality of Town of Seneca Falls water will not change.
If residents have questions or concerns, they can contact the Seneca Falls Water Department at 315-568-6211. You may also find information online at http://www.awwa.org, and http://epa.gov.
