Wayne County is looking for a new commissioner of social services following the retirement of Michael “Josh” McCrossen, who served nearly two decades.
In the meantime, the Board of Supervisors last week agreed to appoint Deputy Commissioner of Social Services Shelly Bentley as interim director at a salary of $100,000.
Supervisors also agreed to advertise the position and allow board Chairman Steve LeRoy to appoint three supervisors to a selection committee that also includes County Administrator Rick House and Human Resources Director Chris Kalinski.
Ontario County Social Services Commissioner Eileen Tiberio is going to assist in the search, House noted.
“There is no hurry (to fill it) because we have a lot of confidence in Shelly,” said House. “She’ll do an excellent job.”
