If you thought the Green Street Garage discussion was quieting down, you’d be right — about two-thirds right, that is.
Last December, the Vecino Group was named the preferred developer of the western and center sections of the Green Street Garage. That left the eastern third’s future undetermined, and with good reason. Jeff Rimland, the owner of the Rothschild’s Building and a co-developer of the Marriott next door, owns the ground under the eastern third of the garage, which meant that anyone else proposing a development on that section would have needed to negotiate for it or buy it off him outright.
As a result, apart from his proposal in conjunction with McKinley Development/Peak Campus, no one else included the eastern third of the garage in their redevelopment proposals last summer.
