As the weather continues to get warmer, more motorcyclists will take to the roads. Now, law enforcement officials are reminding all drivers about safety precautions they can take to ensure a safe summer.
On average, about 141 people die due to motorcycle accidents in New York, every year. More than 1,500 people are hospitalized because of injuries from a motorcycle crash, and nearly 4,500 people are seen at the emergency room from injuries. That’s according to the most recent statistics (2014) from the New York State Dept. of Health.
Now, law enforcement officials are urging all drivers to be extra mindful.
“It’s that time of year. You’re seeing a lot more motorcyclists out-and-about so I think it’s important for everybody to be attentive,” says Acting Chemung County Sheriff, Bill Schrom.
When it comes to practicing traffic safety, Schrom explains, it’s not just motorcyclists who need to make sure they’re extra aware.
