High water levels on the lake bring new challenges for boaters

Summer begins Friday and State Park Police are expecting more boaters on the water. They’re urging boaters to use caution as they could face new dangers related with the higher lake levels.

State Park Police Officers Deliane Lessard and Travis Praller spent Sunday patrolling Braddock Bay in Greece.

The water above the surface near Westpoint Marina was calm but Praller said below the water’s surface, there are hidden hazards.

“There’s logs; there’s tree branches, different debris floating beneath the water, so you have to keep an eye out for that,” he said.

Praller said flood waters are moving around potentially dangerous debris and covering up objects that were once in plain sight, including part of the breakwall on the bay.
