Lake Ontario is now as high as it was during the devastating 2017 flooding. To make matters worse, the winds are expected to pick up Monday.
At last check, Lake Ontario is now around 249 feet — exceeding the historic levels in 2017 that left damage and devastation up and down the shoreline. Home and business owners along the lakeshore are bracing for the worst, hoping help is on the way.
For homeowners like Doug Dobson, who heads the Crescent Beach Neighborhood Association, it’s a wait and see game. He can only watch as the waves of Lake Ontario whip against his concrete deck. He says his deck would cost about $40,000 to repair.
Meanwhile, the American Red Cross has declared the rising waters an emergency. Volunteers helped load sandbags and giving out clean kits.
