Precautions along lakeshore bring cautious optimism for people in Sodus Point

Lake levels continue to rise on Lake Ontario as spring unfolds.

According to the International Joint Commission, the lake’s water level is currently 17 inches above average.

The community of Sodus Point is one of the places where the initial impacts of that rise in lake levels is being felt.

Large industrial pumps are already set up, put onto Greig Street Wednesday and ready to move water out. An aqua dam is closer to the lakeshore.

Residents are hopeful that taking precautions earlier than in years past will prevent damage like the situation encountered in 2017.
