Village of Waterloo to apply for $10 million state grant

Add the village of Waterloo to Finger Lakes communities planning to submit an application for a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative state grant this month.

The village will join the city of Canandaigua, the village of Newark and town of Seneca Falls in submitting applications from the Finger Lakes Economic Development Region. The deadline to apply is May 31.

Village officials will make the formal announcement at 4:30 p.m. today at the Village Hall. Members of the DRI Steering Committee also will be announced today.

“The village has done a lot since 2012 that should help us,” said Don Northrup, village administrator.

Discussion of submitting a DRI application began under former Mayor Ted Young, and new Mayor Jack O’Connor is embracing the idea.
