Syracuse is planning to face Colgate on Sept. 18, 2020, in what is expected to be the first game under the new Carrier Dome roof, Syracuse University’s Senior Associate Vice President of Communications Sarah Scalese confirmed on Tuesday.
“Our goal is to host Colgate the weekend of Sept. 18 but, of course, that will be dependent on the progress of the stadium construction,” Scalese said in a statement.
In an effort to be ready for that game, Syracuse has adjusted the construction timeline from when it was initially announced last May. Syracuse athletic director John Wildhack said last week that the school is planning to move its athletic programs out of the Carrier Dome by March 1. That’s about two months earlier than the school had initially announced.
“The key date is being ready for September 2020,” Wildhack said. “From the onset of this, being ready for the football season of 2020, that’s the most important date. And what we’re doing to transform the building is fantastic. Athletics, we’re going to be a good partner with Pete (Sala) and his team.”
Adhering to that schedule would likely force Syracuse football to play its first two games on the road in 2020.
