Woman pleads guilty in Canandaigua revenge arson attempt

A woman has pleaded guilty to an attempted arson charge for starting a fire at a Canandaigua motel last fall.

Cheryl Buckley, 60, faces a sentence of three-and-a-half to 15 years in prison, the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office says.

Deputies said Buckley started a fire at the Pinewood Manor Motel last September while trying to set a car on fire.

They said she was seeking revenge over a breakup. She is said to have previously tried to start a fire at the motel outside the victim’s room, in addition to putting a gasoline-soaked rag in the exhaust pipe of the victim’s vehicle.
