A torrid first half from senior Taylor Kelly and a typically dominant defensive effort carried the Watkins Glen girls basketball team to its fourth Section 4 Class C title in five seasons Saturday afternoon with a 53-42 win over Unatego at SUNY Cortland.
Kelly nailed six 3-pointers and scored 19 points in the opening half as the second-seeded Senecas bolted to an 18-point lead. Kelly finished with 25 points, matching the team record with seven total 3-pointers.
“I just felt good,” Kelly said. “Actually, before the game I didn’t really feel that well. I wasn’t pumped up like I usually am. Then the crowd just was out there and it was a lot of fun.”
