Former Reveille publisher Joe Siccardi writes second book

After selling his Reveille Between the Lakes weekly newspaper in 2017, former publisher and editor Joe Siccardi moved from Ovid to Maine.

Since retiring after 52 years in the newspaper business, he has written two books.

The father of five children, grandfather to 18 and great-grandfather to three great-granddaughters, his second book is titled “Wisdom From a Father.”

It’s a collection of 52 essay chapters of reflections on life, love and family. The book is an update of posts made in his blog.

“They are all written from the heart, sometimes seriously and sometimes with a touch of humor,” Siccardi said.

Among the topics addressed in Siccardi’s essays are joyful visits to his hometown of Paterson, N.J. and family reunions, conversations and arguments with God, favorite movies, TV commercials that irritate, watching his beloved Green Bay Packers play on TV, religion and the sickness and death of his beloved wife, Karen, in 2008.

Siccardi said he doesn’t profess to be a teacher or leader. “I’m just that ordinary Joe walking on the path of life and sharing it with you. There are joys. There are tribulations. There are reflections and there is everyday life,” he said. “In each essay, I try to convey a recognition of a greater power who colors my perspective.”

“My comments are always filtered through the lens of my Judeo-Christian values and largely based on 40 years of marriage and raising five children.”

The book cover features a photo Siccardi took of Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine.
