William E. "Bill" Ballway passed away peacefully following a brief illness on October 27, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on March 4, 1943, the son of William F. Ballway and Mary Edwards Ballway. He was predeceased by his parents.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Judy; his children, Dawn (Don) Lucas, Donna (Brian) Hill, and Don (Karie) Ballway; his grandchildren, Don, Ethan, Ally, Cris, Kailee, and Matthew; and five great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Bill believed in giving back to his community, whether in Cazenovia, Venice, Canandaigua, or Clayton. He was active in a number of community organizations, including the Lions Club, and served on his church vestry.
Bill enjoyed a successful career as Owner and President of A.E. Hatch Associates and Enviromation Inc., retiring in 2000. Retirement, however, did not mean slowing down. He continued to serve others as president of the homeowners' association in the community where he and Judy lived in Venice, Florida, prior to returning home to New York to be closer to family and friends.
An avid golfer, fisherman, and boater, Bill especially treasured the time he spent on Cazenovia Lake and the St. Lawrence River. Some of his happiest moments were those shared on the water and along the river with family and friends.
Above all, Bill will be remembered for the life he built with Judy, the family he loved, the friendships he nurtured, and his willingness to serve the communities that were part of his life. He leaves behind many cherished memories that will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 5, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 320 South Pearl Street, Canandaigua, New York. A reception will immediately follow the service, and the family welcomes all to attend and share in remembering and celebrating Bill's life.
