A Springwater man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of producing and possessing child sexual abuse material, federal prosecutors announced.
The federal sentence for the 41-year-old Livingston County resident will run consecutively to a 23-year state prison sentence, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of New York.
Patrick Steinmetz was convicted of two counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Office began investigating in March 2024 after a 16-year-old girl who knew Steinmetz reported repeated sexual assaults, prosecutors said.
The abuse began in summer 2023, when she was 15, and continued about weekly for approximately nine months, according to the federal account.
Prosecutors said Steinmetz gave the girl a cellphone that he told her to hide from her mother and used a phone to make recordings of the abuse.
A forensic examination recovered video evidence, according to the announcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Katelyn Hartford handled the prosecution, and U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced the sentence.
The investigation was conducted by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, and the FBI, led locally by Special Agent in Charge Allen Davis.
The Justice Department announcement describes the federal conviction and consecutive sentence.
