Four oversized outdoor games and two indoor sensory stations are new additions to the Seneca Falls Library through a 14-year-old scout’s Eagle Scout service project.
Michael Mazzeo III, a member of Scouting America Troop 74 in Waterloo, designed the project and led volunteers in building the resources, according to a news release.
The sensory stations are designed to offer tactile activities for toddlers and neurodivergent library visitors. The yard games provide another way for children and families to play together outside.
“I wanted to create something that would make the library even more welcoming and accessible for everyone, especially those who benefit from sensory play,” Mazzeo said. “The yard games bring people together outside, and the indoor stations give kids a safe, interactive space to explore.”
The work involved planning, fundraising and more than 100 volunteer hours from fellow scouts, friends and family members.
Mazzeo is a ninth grader at Mynderse Academy. He began scouting at age 5 with former Pack 88 and hopes to earn every merit badge before turning 18.
The completed service project is one part of the requirements for Eagle Scout, which also include earning at least 21 merit badges, the release said.
