A driver was arrested on driving while intoxicated and other charges after two pedestrians were struck in an Ithaca crosswalk Tuesday evening, police said.
Ithaca police, firefighters and Bangs Ambulance responded about 7:04 p.m. to the intersection of South Albany and West Green streets, according to an Ithaca Police Department news release.
Initial reports indicated a vehicle struck two people crossing South Albany Street in the crosswalk, stopped briefly and then continued north, police said.
Both pedestrians were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers found the described vehicle a short time later traveling north on Route 13 and stopped it, according to police.
The stop and an interview with the driver, Phillip Aument, led to his arrest.
Police charged Aument with driving while intoxicated per se, aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and failure to use due care for a pedestrian.
