Voting machine problems disrupt first day of early voting in Tompkins County

Voting equipment problems disrupted the first day of early voting Saturday at two Tompkins County polling locations before officials resolved the issue, according to 14850.com.

The problems affected ballot scanners at the Veterans Services office in Ithaca and the Ithaca Airport CFR building in Lansing.

Election Commissioner Stephen DeWitt said the malfunction was traced to a configuration issue involving printers used to produce ballots on demand. Normal operations resumed around 10:15 a.m.

Voters unable to scan their ballots placed them in secure emergency ballot bags. Officials said those ballots would be hand-counted after Election Day.

Early voting continues through Nov. 1.
