Cornell University has ended its contract with Flock Safety and plans to remove seven automated license plate readers from campus, according to The Ithaca Voice.
The university terminated its agreement Oct. 14 following growing criticism of the surveillance technology and concerns about privacy and law enforcement access to vehicle data.
Cornell’s decision follows similar moves by Ithaca, Tompkins County, Trumansburg and Cayuga Heights to discontinue their contracts with the company.
University officials said the cameras will be removed as quickly as possible while maintaining a commitment to campus safety.
