Haunted Housel limits Friday and Saturday maze visits, bars child drop-offs

Haunted Housel on CR 4 is trying a one-trip limit through its maze on Friday and Saturday nights to reduce crowding, while reminding parents that children cannot be dropped off without an adult.

Organizers said in a Facebook announcement that some visitors have stayed for hours on the busiest scare nights, preventing others from entering the Canandaigua-area attraction and creating lines in the road. They described the road lines as unfair and dangerous.

Bracelets will limit maze re-entry

Under the trial policy, each person admitted on Friday and Saturday nights will receive a bracelet after paying. Visitors can go through the maze once, and the bracelet will be removed when they exit. They will not be allowed to re-enter the maze.

Organizers said the previous arrangement allowed unlimited trips through the maze for a $5 or $10 fee. They said that generally worked, but Friday and Saturday crowds have overwhelmed the property when visitors stayed for repeated trips.

Visitors under 18 need an adult

The attraction also reiterated that visitors must be at least 18 or accompanied by a parent or designated guardian who is at least 18. Organizers said the no-drop-off rule has always been in place and will have no exceptions.

Children without a parent or chaperone will be escorted to the front and told to leave, according to the announcement.

Organizers said they are there to entertain, not babysit.

The attraction invited feedback on the changes through its Facebook page.
