Six current and former elected officials are backing Ontario County Treasurer Jeff Trickler in his bid for another term, according to an endorsement announcement from the Ontario County Republican Committee.
The group includes U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney, state Sen. Pam Helming, Assemblywoman Andrea Bailey, Ontario County Clerk Jean Chrisman, Sheriff David Cirencione and former county Treasurer Gary Baxter.
Helming said she had recently heard both treasurer candidates speak at a public forum. She said Trickler had the knowledge and judgment to manage county finances and safeguard taxpayer dollars. Tenney also cited his experience and commitment to accountability.
Bailey, Chrisman and Cirencione endorsed Trickler in statements included in the party's announcement. Their comments focused on his experience, record-keeping and responsibility for public funds. Baxter, who previously held the treasurer's office, pointed to Trickler's service as deputy treasurer and then treasurer.
“Jeff's service as deputy treasurer and, most recently, as treasurer has been exemplary,” Baxter said in the announcement. “He is exceptionally well qualified and has done an excellent job.”
The treasurer's office handles county receipts and disbursements, safeguards public funds and maintains financial records and reports. Trickler's campaign identifies fiscal stewardship, accountability, service and results as its priorities, according to the Republican Committee.
The Ontario County Board of Elections' candidate list lists Trickler on the Republican and Conservative lines and Julio Chavez Olivera on the Democratic line for the treasurer's race.
