Juvenile charged after stolen vehicle recovered in Seneca Falls

A juvenile was arrested Saturday after a vehicle was stolen from a Seneca Falls residence and later recovered, according to the Seneca Falls Police Department.

The theft was reported during the early morning hours of Oct. 10, police said.

Seneca Falls police coordinated the investigation with the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.

The juvenile was located and arrested that afternoon, and the vehicle was recovered.

Police charged the juvenile with third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, and fourth-degree grand larceny, a class E felony.

The juvenile received an appearance ticket for Youth Part Court and was released to a legal guardian.

In a separate Facebook reminder, the department said the community has seen an increase in vehicle thefts and urged residents to take precautions to protect their vehicles and belongings.

Police advised locking vehicles even when stepping away for only a few minutes, taking keys and key fobs rather than leaving them inside, and checking that doors are locked and windows are closed before walking away.

The department also urged residents to remove purses, wallets, cash, electronics, firearms and other valuables from vehicles. If items must be left behind, police advised keeping them out of sight.

Residents should park in well-lit areas when possible and report suspicious activity to law enforcement. Anyone witnessing a crime in progress or an emergency should call 911.
