Everyone inside a Canandaigua home escaped a basement fire early Thursday, but the house sustained heavy fire, smoke and water damage, the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded about 12:22 a.m. to 4828 County Road 16 in the town of Canandaigua after a structure fire was reported. Investigators determined the fire started in the basement, according to the sheriff’s release.
The release said all occupants evacuated the house safely. It did not say how many people were inside or give an estimate of the damage.
Cheshire, Canandaigua, Hopewell and VA fire crews responded, along with East Bloomfield and Canandaigua ambulance services, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Ontario County Fire Coordinator’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The release did not identify a cause or say when the investigation would be complete.
