Utica man sentenced to 11 years in federal child pornography case

A Utica man received an 11-year federal prison sentence for possessing child sexual abuse material after a prior New York conviction involving such material, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York announced Friday.

Christopher Pratt, 40, was sentenced Sept. 10. U.S. District Judge Anthony Brindisi also ordered 15 years of supervised release after prison and $27,000 in restitution to victims.

As part of his guilty plea, Pratt admitted that he possessed numerous images and videos of child sexual abuse on his phone on Aug. 12, 2025, after his earlier state conviction. He also admitted using a social media application to upload and distribute such material between October 2023 and January 2025, according to prosecutors.

Homeland Security Investigations handled the federal inquiry with help from the New York State Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The U.S. Attorney's Office said the prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a federal effort to investigate and prosecute online child exploitation.
