Stillwater man sentenced to 15 years in federal child exploitation case

A Stillwater man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for receiving child sexual abuse material, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York announced Friday.

Kevin Landry, 29, admitted in a guilty plea that he used a messaging application to receive the material in September 2024. U.S. District Judge Mae D'Agostino also ordered 15 years of supervised release after prison and $21,000 in restitution to victims.

The federal release says Landry pleaded guilty in Tennessee state court in 2020 to soliciting a minor to commit aggravated sexual exploitation. In that case, prosecutors said he obtained an explicit photo of a child through Snapchat and threatened to share it unless the child sent more photos. The Tennessee court imposed a deferral and judicial diversion, according to the release.

Homeland Security Investigations investigated the federal case. Prosecutors said it was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department effort addressing online child exploitation.
