Ithaca Times ordered to leave longtime office

An Ithaca City Court judge approved the eviction of The Ithaca Times on Thursday after the newspaper fell behind on rent, according to The Ithaca Voice.

The paper owes more than $63,000 in rent and interest and must leave its North Cayuga Street office by Nov. 2.

Current and former employees said they have gone weeks without pay, and former managing editor Maddy Vogel said she was still owed wages after leaving in July.

Roy Allen, who leads the nonprofit that took over the paper in 2025, is personally liable for the rent debt and said he intends to pay the employees.

The paper’s future is uncertain, along with that of five other community newspapers it publishes.
