Joe Andreessen signs two-year extension to remain with Bills

“Buffalo Joe” is staying in Western New York for at least a couple more seasons.

The Buffalo Bills are keeping linebacker Joe Andreessen around, agreeing to a two-year, $5 million contract extension Saturday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Andreessen, 26, has quickly become a fan favorite since joining Buffalo as an undrafted free agent in 2024, largely because of his local ties. He was born in Depew, New York, and attended Lancaster High School before beginning his college career at Bryant University. Andreessen transferred to the University at Buffalo for his final collegiate season.

Despite posting impressive athletic testing numbers before the 2024 NFL Draft, Andreessen went unselected. The Bills invited him to rookie minicamp, where he earned an opportunity to compete for a roster spot and ultimately secured a place on Buffalo’s 53-man roster.

Special teams have been Andreessen’s biggest role with the Bills. He recorded 23 special teams tackles in 2025, finishing second in the NFL. Andreessen has continued to produce in that area this season, making three special teams tackles in Buffalo’s season-opening win over the Houston Texans.

Through three games this season, Andreessen has five special teams tackles, which is tied for fifth in the NFL.

Beyond his special teams responsibilities, Andreessen provides depth at linebacker behind Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams.
