Waterloo man charged with shoplifting at Hopewell Walmart

A Waterloo man was charged with petit larceny Wednesday after an investigation into unpaid merchandise at the Walmart in the town of Hopewell, the Ontario County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said Joel Richardson, 48, failed to scan items worth $20.62 at a self-checkout kiosk and passed the final point of sale without paying. He was taken into custody at the store on Recreation Drive shortly before 4 p.m., according to the sheriff's release.
