A candlelight vigil in Newark on Oct. 24 will honor people who have died from domestic violence, support survivors and share information about help available to people experiencing abuse.
The public gathering, called Beyond Silence, is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Pavilion 1 in Perkins Park. Organizers Lori Dowling and Rachel Khauka said they are working with the Survivor Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes to plan it.
Dowling said the event is intended to bring the community together during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Khauka is a lifelong Newark resident, she said.
The organizers have not yet announced a detailed program. They said additional information about the vigil will be released as plans are completed.
The gathering is open to the community.
