The Yankees will play their scheduled Saturday matchup against the Baltimore Orioles one day earlier because of the threat of inclement weather, moving the game to Friday as part of a single-admission doubleheader.The schedule change also moves the Yankees’ ceremony honoring CC Sabathia, whose number will be retired by the organization. The ceremony was originally scheduled for before Saturday’s game but will now take place ahead of Game 1 on Friday.The opening game of the doubleheader is scheduled for 4:05 p.m., while Game 2 will begin no earlier than 7:05 p.m. If the first game extends beyond that time, the second game will start 30 minutes after the final pitch.The Yankees have not yet announced their pitching plans for the three-game series. Will Warren and Carlos Rodón are expected to start two of the games, although the rotation has not been officially set.New York has already secured a spot in the American League Wild Card Series, allowing manager Aaron Boone to manage the final games of the regular season with the postseason in mind.
The Yankees are not the only team adjusting its weekend schedule because of the approaching nor’easter. Boston also moved its Saturday game against the Chicago Cubs to Friday as part of a doubleheader.
