The New York Mets have officially made Andy Green their permanent manager, signing him to a three-year contract that runs through the 2029 season.
Green took over as interim manager after Carlos Mendoza was dismissed at the end of June. Since then, the Mets have gone 37-38 under his leadership while continuing to develop several young players during the final months of the season.
Carson Benge and Nolan McLean have been among the young Mets who continued to make progress after Green took over, helping New York remain competitive despite its difficult position in the standings.
Before joining the managerial staff, Green served as the Mets’ vice president of player development. His work with the organization ultimately led president of baseball operations David Stearns to hand him the interim position.
Green previously managed the San Diego Padres from 2016 through 2019, compiling a 274-366 record over nearly four seasons.
His move into the dugout was initially expected to be temporary, with Stearns saying Green would return to the front office following the season. Instead, the Mets decided to keep him in charge moving forward.
