The village of Skaneateles has sued the owner of 26 E. Genesee St. after months of code-enforcement efforts, according to CNY Central.
The village is seeking a $100 daily fine for each violation left uncorrected since April 7, saying seven violations remain unresolved and pose potential life-safety risks to residents and visitors.
Documentation describes holes and cracks in exterior walls, loose or missing materials, damaged roof components secured with tape and cloth straps, corroded piping and sand-filled plastic bags used in place of repairs.
Complaints date to last October, and Code Enforcement Officer John Cromp sent multiple letters before the village demanded a repair plan or court-ordered compliance.
Owner Richard Schmidt said in July that insurance delays had slowed the roof replacement and outlined a repair timeline, but the village filed suit two months later; Deputy Code Enforcement Officer Patrick Macdonald declined comment because of the litigation, Mayor Mary Sennett did not return a call and Schmidt did not respond to the outlet.
